I like that 3 out of the 4 protesters in the pics are of Asian descent, despite the tour being in Europe. It gives them more legitimacy. I don’t know how often they’ve had to cancel Olympic relays or distinguish the torch in the past, but I can’t imagine it happens too often. There’s always crazies, but nothing like this.
Some people say that the Olympics is not the forum for demonstrations. I personally think it’s the perfect forum. The Olympics is meant to bring together the world in peace. I think using it as a tool to reveal the non-peaceful actions of host governments fits within the spirit of the event. What’s the alternative? China’s internal and external problems are ignored and the IOC, China, and NBC make billions of dollars, as usual.
